Disney - Allowed
Any character who is a direct product of Disney is acceptable for play in Dream League. Any character who is distributed by Walt Disney pictures is also fair game. This includes Disney movies, theme park attractions, television shows, video games, novels, comic books, etc. As long as it's from Disney, any character can be played here.
Who Framed Roger Rabbit characters are also allowed.
Star Wars and Indiana Jones - Not Allowed
There are Star Wars and Indiana Jones attractions in Disney theme parks. Unfortunately, these characters are not allowed in Dream League. As Yoda would say, "Are Disney characters, they not. Hm, hm, hm!"
Kingdom Hearts - Not Allowed
Any character from Kingdom Hearts is not allowed. We're sorry, but this has been a rule for years. The reason is that we simply want this forum to focus more on Disney and less on Square-Enix-esque characters.
ABC Shows and Movies Released Under Different Motion Picture Banners - Not Allowed[/u]
A stickier situation is regarding movies and television shows tied with Disney, but not "officially" recognized as direct products of the Walt Disney label. These include television shows from the ABC network, and R and PG-13-rated movies from Disney affiliates such as Hollywood Pictures, Touchstone, etc. While these shows may have ties with Disney, they aren't allowed in Dream League. To give you an example, any character from Arachnophobia isn't allowed, and any character from Desperate Housewives or Lost are out of the question.
Hopefully this won't be a problem!
The Muppets - Partially Allowed (Please Read)[/u]
Because Disney bought The Muppets and various Muppet-related items back in 2004, The Muppets are allowed in Dream League. This means that it is legal to see Kermit the Frog hang out with George Darling.
There are, however, certain Jim Henson properties that are not allowed in Dream League, because they weren't part of the Disney/Muppet deal. These include Sesame Street, Fraggle Rock, The Dark Crystal, Labyrinth, Farscape, Storyteller, MirrorMask, the Hoobs, and original characters from Muppets From Space (which is the one Muppet film not acquired by Disney).
Suggested Muppet characters include but not limited to...
Studio Ghibli Characters - Partially Allowed (Please Read)[/u]
Characters from Studio Ghibli films are also allowed, if they have an English dub produced by Disney. Grave of the Fireflies, therefore, is out of the question, as well as any Studio Ghibli film that has not been distributed by Disney. Princess Mononoke is allowed.
Popeye and Dragonslayer - Not Allowed
Paramount Pictures co-produced and distributed the movies Popeye and Dragonslayer with Walt Disney Pictures. However, those characters aren't allowed in Dream League, because they are predominantly Paramount characters. Sorry, Popeye; you know I love you. Agugugugugugu!
Marvel - Not Allowed[/u]
Shame and heartache, but at the current time Marvel characters are not allowed in Dream League, even though Marvel was acquired by Disney. Yeah, this is superhero discrimination, we know.
DreamWorks - Not Allowed[/u]
Despite the Disney distribution deal with DreamWorks, characters from DreamWorks aren't allowed, either.
The Cartoon Wasteland from the upcoming video game Epic Mickey - Undecided[/u]
At the current time, it is undecided if the Cartoon Wasteland and its characters will be allowed in Dream League. The decision will likely be made after both Amanda and I play the video game for ourselves.
VERY Loosely Related to Disney/Non-Disney Movie Characters - Not Allowed[/u]
And I DO mean *loose*...for example, someone tried to bring Mrs. Brisby from The Secret of NIMH in here before. The only transparently THIN tie that movie (as great as it is, by the way!) has to Disney is that Don Bluth brought former animators from Walt Disney Animation Studios with him when he left to work on it. An association like that does not a Disney movie make, sorry. Additionally, just because a movie, animated or live-action, is a family-friendly musical does not mean it's Disney.
